Sunflower Lecithin Powder
Lecithin from sunflower seeds.
Lecithin is a great source of choline
Although choline can be produced by the body from the amino acids methionine or serine, it was recognized as an essential nutrient in 1998 by the Institute of Medicine. Why? It turns out that choline, which is independently produced even by a healthy body, is not enough to meet all our needs.
Choline is involved in the synthesis of the important neurotransmitter acetylcholine, and is also present in the signaling substances of cell membranes. It also serves as a "methyl donor" like folic acid and vitamin B12. In addition, choline is essential for fat metabolism. In the absence of choline, fats cannot leave the liver cells, which can contribute to the development of diseases such as non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD). Dietary phosphatidylcholine is the main food source of choline, and lecithin is the richest source of phosphatidylcholine.
