More info

Xylitol or xylitol (Greek: xylo- "wood" and -itol "sugar alcohol") is a natural sweetener with proven health benefits.

Xylitol is the only carbohydrate of all that tastes and looks identical to dietary sugar. But the fact that it can be obtained from almost any fibrous raw material of plant origin has brought even greater popularity to the substance. Therefore, its other name is wood or birch sugar. For the first time, xylitol was produced in Finland from birch bark.

Xylitol is a safe natural sweetener without the side effects of regular sugar and artificial substitutes. It is also good for dental health, stabilizes insulin levels and promotes body health.

True xylitol is very similar to regular sugar: it is white in color, has a crystalline structure, and has a sweet taste similar to sugar. The formation of sweet alcohol compounds is naturally present in plants, vegetables and fruits (for example, cauliflower, strawberries, raspberries, plums, etc.), but the concentration of xylitol in them rarely exceeds 1%.

The human body produces 5 to 15 grams of xylitol daily in the liver during the breakdown of carbohydrates. Accordingly, xylitol is an absolutely natural element for the human body, which cannot be said about other sweeteners.

Natural and safe alternative to sugar with the same level of sweetness;
It has virtually no effect on blood sugar and insulin levels;
Contains 40% fewer calories than sugar;
When interacting with bacteria, xylitol does not ferment, which stops the growth of bacterial colonies and, as a result, their by-products, harmful acids (which preserves tooth enamel);
It has an anti-adhesive property that prevents bacteria from attaching to cell tissue and reduces their impact without the use of harmful chemicals or drugs.

Side Effects of Xylitol
Excessive use of xylitol can cause a laxative effect. With regular consumption of xylitol, this effect disappears, which cannot be said for example with sorbitol. The body rebuilds and assimilates xylitol quite naturally. In order to avoid a laxative effect, the daily dose should not exceed at the initial stage: 50 - 70 grams, a single dose of about 20 grams.

Xylitol is not safe for pets, especially for dogs due to the lack of an enzyme in dogs to break it down!
